Summer is here, and with the summer solstice marking the longest days of the year, it’s a fitting time to celebrate the power of the sun.
This month, we’re sharing a major Northwind milestone, local solar stories, and timely opportunities to learn more about solar, storage, incentives, and energy resilience in Central Wisconsin.
Northwind Turns 19 on July 1
On July 1, Northwind Solar celebrates 19 years in business and an exciting new milestone: 1,000 behind-the-meter solar installations.
As a worker-owned cooperative, we’re proud of what this achievement represents: nearly two decades of quality workmanship, trusted customer relationships, and local clean energy built to last.
Hear from our General Manager, Matt, more about this milestone in his video message.
We’re excited to spotlight our recent solar installation at UW-Stevens Point’s Albertson Hall.
Projects like this show how public institutions can use solar to reduce long-term energy costs, support sustainability goals, and demonstrate leadership for students, staff, and the broader community.
Solar Story: Linda’s Journey from Solar to Storage and EV Charging
When Linda built her home near Oshkosh, she wanted it to be efficient, resilient, and better for the planet. With help from Northwind Solar, she added solar, battery backup, and an EV charger, lowering utility costs and gaining peace of mind during outages.
Her advice for others considering solar? “Going solar makes financial sense, and it’s better for the planet, too.”
Solar incentives and rebate programs can help reduce upfront costs for eligible homes, businesses, farms, and nonprofits. Current opportunities include Focus on Energy solar rebates, Central Wisconsin Solar Group Buy savings, and a limited-time Powerwall 3 rebate for battery storage. For commercial and nonprofit solar projects, time is also running out to plan around the 30% federal clean energy credit. Northwind Solar can help you understand which programs apply to your project.
The Group Buy is back for 2026! This program makes going solar easier through education, group-buy pricing, and rebates for eligible homeowners, businesses, farms, and nonprofits. Attend a free Solar Power Hour to learn how solar works, what makes a property a good fit, and how to get started.

Congratulations to Sam O’Carroll, who has been promoted to DC Field Lead. Sam has shown great dedication to workmanship, safety, and expanding his solar expertise. He is drone certified and recently earned his NABCEP PV Associate Credential. We’re proud to celebrate Sam’s growth and leadership as part of our worker-owned cooperative. If you see him on your job this summer, be sure to say hi!

Solar Plus Storage Spotlight
Solar is powerful on its own. Adding battery storage can provide greater energy resilience. Whether you’re planning a new solar system or already have solar and want backup power, batteries can help keep your home or business running during grid outages and help you get more from your investment by storing energy for use at night or during outages when you need it most.
Curious how solar plus storage could work for your property? Reach out anytime, we’re happy to help.
